ALEX'S STORY
The Alex C. Dove Foundation, and Dove’s Nest, were established in August of 2019. Dove's Nest is the first respite retreat of its kind in the Midwest. Its purpose is to offer those struggling from a life-threatening illness a free place to relax and rest by the beautiful lake side.
In 2016, at the age of 21, Alex Dove was diagnosed with Grade 4 Glioblastoma Brain Cancer. While going through surgery, endless chemotherapy and radiation treatments, he would always stay positive and focused on what made him happy. Even with all the challenges, Alex was able to graduate from UW Whitewater with a double major in Accounting and Business Management.
Growing up, Alex loved going “up north” to his grandparent's lakeside cabin in northern Wisconsin. It was a place for the whole family to relax and have fun together. Alex believed having a free retreat for people with a life-threatening illness would offer a wonderful gift: rest and relaxation away from the stresses experienced by patients and their families. This is how the Alex C. Dove Foundation was created.
Alex passed away on March 3, 2019 at the age of 24, after a 3 year battle with brain cancer. His legacy lives on through the foundation.
